H. P. (Hayden) McGowan is a SSHRC-funded composer and academic from Ottawa.  Graduating with High Distinction, he earned his Honours Music degree from Carleton University in 2019 studying under Jesse Stewart, Roddy Ellias, and James K. Wright.  Hayden is currently attending the University of Ottawa for a Master of Music in Composition degree studying under John Gordon Armstrong.  Hayden’s compositional style has been described as ‘ephemeral’, ‘measureless’, and ‘atmospheric’, influenced greatly by the mid-century New York avant-garde as well as the Wandelweiser school.  Though primarily a concert music and electroacoustic composer, Hayden is also a self-employed composer and sound designer for visual media.
