Jack Hui Litster

Jack Hui Litster is a graduate student in the Music and Culture program at Carleton University, where he studies composition with Dr. James K. Wright, and is a research assistant to Jesse Stewart. Jack's new baroque/Celtic chamber opera titled 'The Day You Were Born' will be premiered in May 2021 by OperOttawa. 

Jack plays percussion, keyboard, guitar, and is studying the guzheng. He has worked as a performer, music teacher, community ensemble leader, session musician, and composer. Jack's recent performance work in Ottawa has included working with his retro band The Ticket with Adam Waselnuk, accompanying afrobeat/hip hop artist Wise Atangana, folk singer Chris White, and the Improvising Musicians of Ottawa-Outaouais Orchestra. From 2009-2012 Jack taught drums at the Nepean School of Music, using a drum method book that he authored, titled Integrated Drumkit: Musicianship, Groove, Tone Technique. Jack has studied music business and composition and orchestration for film and television at the Berklee College of Music Online, and in 2019 he was mentored for six months by music producer Gary Gray. From 2003-2005 Jack studied jazz performance at St. Francis Xavier University.
