Performing on both the viola and the viola d'amore, Jennifer Thiessen cultivates a particular interest in classical and contemporary chamber music, creating new composed and improvised music, and historically inspired performance practice. Jennifer has worked closely with such composers as: Michael Matthews, Steven Gellman, Isaiah Ceccarelli, Alexandra Fol, Brian Harman, Matthew Ricketts. From 2007 to 2012, Jennifer toured with La La La Human Steps, performing chamber music by Gavin Bryars and David Lang. She has performed and recorded with such ensembles as: Ensemble Caprice, Collectif 9, Quatuor Franz-Joseph, and Les Violons du Roy. She performs regularly with Sarah Slean, and can be heard on recordings by Michel F. Côté and Michel Lambert. Highlights of her 2014-2015 season include a program of contemporary viola d'amore music hosted by the ONMC, and a program presented by Innovations en Concert including the premier of a new work by Matthias Maute for viola d'amore and harpsichord with Jean-Willy Kunz. She will also release the first recording of her singer-songwriter project, Daily Alice. Originally from Manitoba, Jennifer studied at the University of Manitoba, the University of Ottawa and l'Université de Montréal.
