Kelly-Marie Murphy posts Kickstarter for OSO "Blue on Blue" première

Today, Ottawa composer Kelly-Marie Murphy kicks off an ambitious two-month campaign to raise $7000 to support the première of her piece, Blue on Blue: Unthinkable Distance, Unspeakable Sorrow by the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra. Notable backer rewards include signed scores, acknowledgement in the concert program, and attendance at the dress rehearsal.

From the campaign:

The text was created through interviews with, Richard and Claire Léger, parents of fallen soldier, Sgt. Marc Léger from Lancaster, Ontario. Marc was killed at Tarnak Farm, Afghanistan, the night a U.S. pilot dropped a laser guided bomb on a live-fire Canadian training exercise. The piece, written from Richard’s point of view and portrayed by a tenor soloist, deals with universal topics of love and loss; struggle and coping; remembering and moving on; pride and sorrow.

The piece will be premiering on November 17th, 2014 at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. It will be performed by the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra as part of their 50th anniversary season.

You can support Kelly-Marie and the OSO by becoming a backer on Kickstarter.
